Ayat al Germezi

Bahraini shia poet - arrested and tortured following a reading of her protest poem. Currently under house arrest. Her poem was addressed to King Hamad bin 'Isa Al Khalifa, Bahrain's head of state and it includes the lines

"We are the people who will kill humiliation and assassinate misery
We are the people who do not want to remain backward
Don’t you hear their cries?
Don’t you hear their screams?
